To make high quality generic medications and biosimilars available to Sudanese people in affordable prices.

Our main target is to work with generic manufacturers in the UK and Europe

While it is commonly believed that imported medications from developed world , and the UK in particular, are out of reach of limited budgets of countries like Sudan. Our argument is that in the UK a free market approach with competition between manufacturers, incentives for GPs to prescribe and pharmacists to dispense generics has made generic prices the lowest in the developed world.

For example, in 2020 Sudan could have saved 30% of the budget spent on one commonly used Asthma inhaler which is equivalent to 2.4 million Euros. In addition, the amount that Sudan has spent on purchasing a single originator antidepressant was 20 times the price for the average generic equivalent in the UK which means that the cost of this medication on the NHS is one-tenth of the cost of the same medication on the Sudan health system despite the huge differences in resources.

Hussam is a qualified Sudanese Family Medicine Consultant (GP). Hussam is a global doctor as coming from Sudanese origin, born and raised in Saudi Arabia, trained in UK, Germany, Grenada, Sudan and now working and living in the UK. He believes in people basic right for access to good quality healthcare and determined to transfer skills and experiences that he gained throughout his career to help building effective healthcare system in Sudan.

He states “ I remember when I worked as a doctor in Sudan we had to balance our clinical decision with availability and affordability of investigations and treatments. The quality of medications were under question with the wide spread of falsified or substandard medicines which pushed doctors towards the slippery slope of prescribing specific brands that might be more expensive and add to the burden on patients and their families. This is quite different to my current practice in the UK as I can confidently prescribe the cheapest generic medication and will not be worried about the quality or effectiveness of a medication as long as it is licensed by MHRA to be traded in the UK market”.

Hussam has demonstrated leadership qualities as he is currently acting as current General Secretary for Sudanese British Primary Care Association (SBPCA). This role has added to his understanding about the current health system status and needs and added to his professional network. Hussam has strong entrepreneurship interest and skills, over the years he had few business ventures which helped him to learn and understand how to build a successful business.
